Spidey in New York!

112 frames, obviously far too large filesizewise to be an emote but it was so fun to make!

Originally he was just going to swing past buildings. Then I had the idea of the background, then the foreground, then the backflip. I like it, I hope you do too :) Photoshop and Animation shop, 4 or 5 hours.

This actually looks better without full-view, because the darker background contrasts with the lighter stuff.

I don't usually select pieces that are a year old for DDs, but Spidey in NYC by ~WhatShortyDid is such a beautiful example of background design and silken animation that I simply had to make an exception. Particularly astonishing is how he creates a full cityscape for Spidey to navigate by setting buildings in the foreground, background and on the horizon, using only 66 pixels of width. What magnificent detail work in the moving cityscape, and Spidey's movements are smooth as the silk he spins. You're right that it loses a fair bit of its charm on a light background. You could make a version with a non-transparent nighttime background if inspiration struck. I wouldn't have thought that would ever work, but luminoire's angels proved my skepticism unfounded. :)

Really beautiful job, WhatShortyDid.

Hey thanks for your kind words! I looked at those angels and they're very impressive. Some good gradient work and some nice fading edges, I don't know how good I would be at that, but in the back of my mind I always wanted to put a sunset in, so maybe I'll try it sometime. Thanks for the suggestion, the compliments and the fav!
